Materials and Reservations

Module 1 Est. 3 h · estimate · draft

Lesson 5 of 9Process step: PlanningAudience: Mechanical + I&EPrerequisites: Lesson 4Draft · unverified

You'll be able to

  • Explain how stock and non-stock components are procured
  • Issue and return order materials with the correct movement types

Why it matters in the plant

Missing parts are a common reason scheduled work doesn't happen. The call horizon and reservations exist to prevent that.

In this lesson

  1. Assign components and release the order IW32MMBEME51N
  2. Issue and return materials MIGO

Common mistakes

  • Confirming the order before returning unused parts: the 262 return may be blocked (KBA 3513948) Unverified. Return parts before confirmation.
  • Setting a call horizon too short for parts with long lead times [S9][S12].

Steps and transactions

Each step pairs the planning work with the transactions you'll use. Codes link to the reference.

1Assign components and release the order

Assigning stock components to an operation creates reservations. Non-stock items or outside services create purchase requisitions (PRs). The non-stock PR detail comes from a search summary of [S12] Unverified. After approval and preparation, release the order.

Craft notes

Mechanical: seal, gaskets, bearings, lubricant (illustrative). I&E: calibration equipment and replacement parts (illustrative).

2Issue and return materials

Issue material to the order in MIGO with movement type 261. A planned goods issue against the order reservation gets 261 automatically. Return unused parts with 262 by posting a Return Delivery against the original goods issue Unverified. Note: KBA 3513948 says 262 can be blocked (message M7130) after an order is confirmed. The KBA refers to a PP order, and its PM applicability is not confirmed Unverified. SAP Learning's 261 page uses a production order as its example Unverified.

Craft notes

Same for both crafts.
