Module 1 Est. 3.5 h · estimated

Lesson 6 of 9Process step: SchedulingAudience: Mechanical + I&EPrerequisites: Lesson 5 (or equivalent experience)

You'll be able to

  • Start a maintenance plan and explain deadline monitoring
  • Set a call horizon that gives enough lead time

Why it matters in the plant

A plan does nothing until it is scheduled. The call horizon decides whether purchasing has time to get parts before the work is due.

In this lesson

  1. Start and monitor the plan IP10IP30IP30H
  2. Set the call horizon and review the dates IP19IP24

Common mistakes

  • Saving a plan without scheduling it: no orders are ever created. Start it with IP10 [S10].
  • Setting a call horizon too late: there is no lead time for materials or contractors [S9].

Steps and transactions

Each step pairs the planning work with the transactions you'll use. Codes link to the reference.

1Start and monitor the plan

Without regular scheduling, no call objects are created. Start a plan once with IP10. After that, deadline monitoring keeps it running. IP30 is the legacy deadline monitoring transaction, usually run as a daily background job with program RISTRA20. IP30H is mass scheduling. Deadline monitoring checks due dates, recalculates them when parameters change, creates call objects, and shifts later dates when work finishes early or late.

2Set the call horizon and review the dates

The call horizon sets how early the order is generated before the planned date. SAP's example uses a 90-day cycle: 0% calls immediately, 80% calls after 72 days, and 100% calls on the planned date. With business function LOG_EAM_CI_6 active, you can also set the horizon in calendar days or factory-calendar working days. Review upcoming dates in IP19 or IP24. Depending on configuration, notifications can also be call objects.
